Instructions

  • Visit https://fts.tsa.dhs.gov click on register options Candidate Portal

  • Complete Registration

  • Fil out the entire application. You will need information from your passport, visa, and/or IDs to complete the application.

  • You will need to scan-in images of passports and/or visas in order to submit the application

  • You wil be asked for some details about the flight training you would like to complete. It is important you choose PURDUE AVIATION, LLC (not Purdue University) for your training.

  • During the application process you will be asked certain questions about flight training you are pursuing. Below are the appropriate responses to the questions regarding the flight school course, dates, and training aircraft,

    • Student Category: All of our students are Category 3 students. Category 4 ONLY applies to aircraft weighing over 12,500lbs

    • Student Number / Student ID Number: This field is not required. Leave it blank.

    • Course ID: A three letter ID for the course you are taking (it does not have to be exact): PVT, IRA, COM, CFI, etc.

    • Course Title: Write out the name of the certificate or rating. "Private Pilot," "Instrument Rating. " etc.

    • Course Description: Make it the same as the Course Title

    • Start Date: Write in the date of your first flight, or the date you intend to start flying.

    • End Date: Write in a date approximately 1 year from the Start Date (this does not need to be exact)

  • The TSA will email Purdue Aviation and ask us to approve your application to fly at our location. Throughout the entire TSA approval process, Purdue Aviation will receive the same emails that you do.

  • Once we approve your application, the TSA wil email you with instructions on how to pay the $130 application fee.

  • After the TSA has accepted your documentation, they will email you for the fingerprinting portion of the process. Do not get fingerprinted BEFORE the TSA has emailed you the fingerprinting instructions.

  • Email with Student Services before the fingerprinting process begins. Email Rachel Ward at rward@purdueaviationilc.com

  • There are 2 options for fingerprinting:

    • Purdue Police Department (free, approval within 2-3 weeks)

    • IDEMIA($34.00, travel to Indianapolis, approval within 3 hours)

  • If you will be fingerprinted at the Purdue Police Department, you can schedule a time using the following link. https://www.purdue.edu/ehps/police/community-services/services/fingerprinting.php

  • To use IDEMIA, please follow directions in email

  • Once the TSA receives the fingerprints, they will email you and indicate that you may begin flight training. This email will specifically state that you have been granted PERMISSION TO INITIATE FLIGHT TRAINING

  • At this point, please call Rachel Ward to walk through the scheduler program and schedule your first flight!
